| 1982 - Launch of the five-door Alfasud and the Alfasud
Ti 1.5 QV
Since June 1982 Alfa Romeo offers a five-door version of the Alfasud
with hatchback. Additional stiffenings of the Alfasud's body make it possible.
With the launch of the five-door versions, Alfa Romeo modifies the complete Alfasud range. The Alfasud 1.2 Junior remains the last four-door version
with the small boot-lid. It is the cheapest version of the range. All other
Alfasuds now have a hatchback. Besides the Junior there are two other Alfasuds
which have the 1186 cm³ engine: the five-door 1.2 S and 1.2 SC. The
S stands for "Super", the SC means "Super Comfort". Some sources also state
a 1.3 S. At the other end of the range there is the new Alfasud 1.5 Quadrifoglio
Oro (Golden Cloverleaf). It has the 95 bhp engine of the Alfasud Ti 1.5
and offers a luxurious equipment. A wooden steering wheel and gearlever-knob,
fine beige velour upholstery, front light wipers / washers, bi-coloured
steel-rims, a rear-window wiper, electric windows in the front doors and
a metallic paint are standard. The radiator grille of the 1.5 QO is made
of bright grey plastic while all the other Alfasuds have a black one. So,
if you wanted to buy an Alfasud in 1982, you had the choice between seven
different versions:
Alfasud 1.2 Junior (4-doors)
Alfasud 1.2 S (5-doors)
Alfasud 1.2 SC (5-doors)
Alfasud 1.3 SC (3-doors)
Alfasud 1.3 SC (5-doors)
Alfasud 1.5 SC (3-doors)
Alfasud 1.5 QO (5-doors) The already mentioned
Alfasud Junior is offered in two different versions.
It is sold as 63 bhp and as 68 bhp version.
6000 units are built - 4500
of them for the Italian market. The German Alfa Romeo dealers sell a Junior 1.3 with 75 bhp, five speeds and four doors. It has a red-orange-yellow
stripe following the contours of the Alfasud's side. Compared to the usual 1.3 it costs
2000 DM less. The Junior
1.3 is sold as a limited edition (a thousand units) and is meant as Alfa
Romeo for beginners. All Alfasud Berlinas now have the long transmission
ratio gearbox which reduces the fuel consumption of the 1.3 by about 13.5
%.
In October 1982 Alfa Romeo launches the fastest Alfasud ever made,
the Alfasud Ti 1.5 Quadrifoglio Verde with 105 bhp. The raised power-output
of the 1.5 litre engine is the result of the use of larger jets in the
well-known Weber 36 IDF 44 / 45 carburettors and modified camshafts. To assure that nobody can mix it up
with the 1.3 Ti, the 1.5 Ti QV has black sill covers and a red scudetto.
It stands on Michelin TRX (190/55 HR 340) or Pirelli P6 (185/60 HE 14)
tires and special alloy wheels made by Speedline. The interior is upgraded
by a leather steering wheel and new sportive seats. The seats are covered
with a special fabric which shows the "Ti"-Logo in red letters on black
ground, the floor carpet is kept in red. The 1.5 Ti QV needs 31,2 seconds
for one kilometre (standing start) and reaches a top speed of 185 kph.
The 1.3 Ti is now sold with the long transmission ratio. So, there are
two Tis in the 1982 Alfasud range.
In 1982 Alfa Romeo introduces a new marchio. Its design has been modernised.
The Alfa Romeo letters are now
kept in gold and the marchio itself has a larger diameter. Step by step
all Alfa Romeos get the new marchio - also the Alfasud. Alfa Romeo Germany
offers a special edition of the Alfasud Ti 1.5 with 95 bhp before the 1.5
Ti QV is launched. It is called "das Alfasud Ti 1.5 Sondermodell ganz in
weiß". This all-white Ti 1.5 is upgraded
by a special spoiler-kit. The Alfasud
Sprint 1.5 Veloce trofeo is a special edition of the
Alfasud Sprint 1.5 Veloce. It is
sold in many countries. Meanwhile, the last days of the Alfasud Giardinetta
have come. The production of the unsuccessful estate is stopped.
The Trofeo Alfasud is replaced by the Sprint-Cup in 1982. Instead of
the old 1.3 litre which was used in the Trofeo Alfasud, the Sprint-Cup-cars
have a hot 1.5 litre engine with about 145 bhp. Autodelta produces some
of this Alfasud Sprint Veloce trofeo racers for this cup.
