Fasano's Sprint 1.7 16V
Franco's Sprint is surely something very special. It is based on a
1981 Alfasud Sprint 1.5.
The car was equipped with Zender side skirts,
front- and rearspoiler. The windows were tinted black with a film to be
safe of people looking in the rear of the car. The grille was made of aluminium,
the front lights were equipped with Xenon-blue lights and the rear lights
were tinted red. All logos and badges on the body were removed and the
holes were closed before the car went to the paint shop. Monroe Sport schock
absorbers and shorter springs give the Sprint a better handling. Franco
uses Pirelli P7000 205/40 17" tyres on AZEV 17" alloy wheels. The entire brake system was taken out of an Alfa 33 16V. Consequently,
the Sprint now has ventilated front discs, rear discs and ABS. An OMP anti-roll
bar makes cornering even more funny than in a serial Sprint. The 1.5 litre Alfasud Sprint 1.5 engine was replaced by a 1.7 litre
16V which was also taken out of an Alfa 33 1.7 16V. Two Weber twin-choke
downdraft carburators, a K&N air intake
and an ARC inox exaust system
complete the engine. Now, "il motore" is a nice sounding instrument.
Of course, the interior was modified, too. So driver and front passenger
now sit on Recaro seats which are covered with black leather - as the rear
bench is. Franco gave the instruments a new design. Now the are "chromestyle".
A PLS pedal system and a steering wheel by the same company were also fitted.
The gearlever knob is a Momo product and the handbrake lever was made of
polished aluminum. The plastic Gearlever and handbrake sacks were replaced
by ones made of black leather. In addition to that, there are also electric
front windows and a central locking.
Mr. Fasano also integrated a high-tech hifi system into his Sprint.
A Pioneer CD radio (DEH P 9000 R AOL) has the control over two amplifiers
(Caliber Competition CA 240 and CA 500). Two Magnat Shockwave 1500 subwoofers
with a diametre of 38 cm assure enough bass sounds. The front speakers
are
Magnat Stratos 216 Gold. The serial battery was replaced by a new and
stronger one. A stronger alternator gives enough power. All electric connections
where replaced by HPM Platin equivalents. The wirage was done with Monitor
Stinger Dream Series products. A Brax EPC 1 Farad Condesor was integrated
between the amplifiers and the subwoofers.
As Franco told me, he only uses
the
stereo when the engine is not running. The sound of the strong boxer is
much too good to disturb it with music...
