In 1986 the Swiss Alfa Romeo importer Alfa Romeo Svizzera SA (based in Agno on the bank of the Lugano lake) launched a special edition on the base of the 105 bhp Sprint 1.5 Quadrifoglio Verde. As the German and the French Alfa Romeo importer did, Alfa Romeo Svizzera named it "Grand Prix". The car was presented to the public on the 1986 edition of the Mondial d'Automobile motor show at Geneva in 1986.
Compared with the Sprint 1.5 QV the Grand Prix showed three differences: the bumpers and the plastic side panels were painted in body colour, the body was decorated with a special piping along the waistline and the interior was equipped with a special velour upholstery. As the French Grand Prix, the Swiss Sprint Grand Prix already based on the floorplan of the Alfa 33.

In 1986 a usual Sprint 1.5 QV costed 18.650,00 Swiss Francs. The Grand Prix was sold for 19.250,00 SFR. The only option for the Sprint Grand Prix was a metallic paint which costed another 250,00 SFR.

At that time, Switzerland's officials were just planning more severe emission standards for new cars. In order to anticipate the new law, Alfa Romeo Svizzera offered all Sprint versions with an optional catalyst since October 1986.
